| We stopped for cigarettes around the corner from Kevin Russell's house and then it was on...three weeks in the van with The Gourds as they toured the West Coast, opening 14 shows (for the Old 97's) in support of their second album, Stadium Blitzer. I flew down from New Jersey to capture the whole thing on film, partly because their new drummer, Keith Langford, was taking his very first tour with the band, but mostly because I just love seeing The Gourds play live. Almost 12 years later, I still do. Back then, though, since they had only been around for a little more than three years, there was a different kind of feeling in the air. The possibilities seemed endless...at least to me. I just hope some of that comes through in the pictures that I took. |
